Loydence Academy is a privately ruan primary school, educating children between Preschool and Year 6 (UK curriculum). The School employs approximately 50 people – a mixture of administration, teaching and support staff.
The Acting Principal of the school prepared the health and safety policy statement using HSE UK’s template. He then thought about what he should include in his policy, such as first aid, fire safety, personal protective equipment, staff consultation, training etc. He decided that he and his Senior Leadership Team (SLT) were the most competent (experienced and capable) people to take responsibility for health and safety issues. The Acting Principal presented the policy statement at a staff meeting and decided to review and update the policy every year or straightaway if there is a significant change in the workplace.

This section provides information on what we consider when managing health and safety and assessing the risks in the workplace. It shows how we follow a ‘Plan, Do, Check, Act’ approach:
Plan: Describe how health and safety is managed and plan to make it happen in practice.
Do: Prioritise and control risks – consult employees and provide training and information.
Check: Measure how we are doing.
Act: Learn from our experience.
